While these places are dog-friendly, dogs and their pawrents should follow general guidelines when in public settings.

Dogs should not be aggressive towards people or other dogs
Dogs should not disrupt the activities of the business or be a nuisance to other customers
Dogs should be up to date on vaccinations
Most locations require or prefer that your dog be on a flea, tick, and heartworm preventative
Dogs should be trained to use the bathroom outside
Always bring bags and pick up after your dog
Dogs should be well-groomed
Females in heat should stay at home
Dogs should be in equipment that fits them appropriately and prevents escape
Dogs should be on a leash at all times unless otherwise indicated
Most, if not all, locations require or prefer you bring your dog on a plain leash and leave your retractable leash at home
Some locations may have specific rules
All locations require you to be attentive to your dog at all times, caring for their needs, and never leaving them unattended.

Highlands Hammock State Park

A beautiful space for a walk or jog surrounded by nature. There are several dog-friendly walking trails to explore. Being a "hammock", most of the park is heavily shaded by trees which makes for a pleasant walk on a warm day. Pack the mosquito repellent and make sure your dog has heartworm prevention.

The Bagel Bar

What's better than authentic New York bagels? A great breakfast or lunch accompanied by your best friend! The Bagel Bar is happy to accommodate your well-mannered dogs.

We can't forget to mention our locally owned and operated natural pet store! They have locations in both Sebring and Lake Placid. Not only can you find high-quality pet products here, but you can also bring your dog to help pick them out!

Heel Together Adoption Event

The Heel Together Academy allows dogs from HCSO Animal Services to "go to prison" at Avon Park Correctional Institution (AvPCI) to learn basic manners, obedience, and leash walking with inmate handler teams. Our currently available dogs will be at Pet Supermarket for a "meet and greet" adoption event.

Adoption fees are $125 and dogs will be able to go home when they have completed their training at AvPCI. Adoption inquiries should be directed to Animal Services at 863-402-6730
