Behavior Modification Program

Some behaviors require an expert approach and a customized plan. If your dog struggles with things like;

  • Aggression or biting
  • Reactivity (barking, lunging, growling on leash)
  • Fearfulness or anxiety
  • Resource guarding
  • Separation-related issues
  • Other complex behavior concerns
then our Behavior Modification Program is the right fit for you.

What is Behavior Modification and Why is it Different?

Obedience training teaches good manners: sit, stay, come when called, and polite leash walking. It’s about building communication and routines for everyday life.

Behavior modification goes much deeper. It addresses unwanted behaviors rooted in emotions like fear, anxiety, or frustration. Behaviors such as aggression, reactivity, destructive habits, phobias, or resource guarding. These require both expertise and a thoughtful, step-by-step approach.

Why is it different from obedience work?

  • It’s not about simply teaching commands. Behavior modification requires us to understand the cause of your dog’s struggles, not just the surface symptoms.
  • Progress is stepwise and customized. Each dog is unique; we tailor the plan based on their triggers, environment, and your goals.
  • Safety and emotional well-being come first. We prioritize management strategies and stress-reduction before teaching new skills, laying a foundation for lasting change.
  • Collaboration is key. We’ll work together through written plans, practical exercises, and check-ins to make sure every step is solid before moving on.
In short:
Behavior modification is about addressing root causes and helping your dog feel safer, more confident, and more able to thrive in the world, not just following commands.

How Our Process Works

Step 1: Behavior Evaluation And Personalized Plan

  • Starts with a phone consult to gather information, address urgent safety needs, and understand your goals.
  • In-person assessment (60-90 minutes)
  • You receive a custom, written plan delivered one milestone at a time, ensuring you’re supported through each step before advancing to the next.

Step 2: Milestone-Based Sessions

  • Our program guides you through three key phases: Management & Safety (creating a secure environment), Foundation Skills (teaching coping tools and positive behaviors), and Real-Life Application (practicing those skills in day-to-day situations).
  • Every phase is uniquely tailored to your dog’s needs and your household, taking into account your dog’s personality, history, and your specific goals for long-term success.
  • Advancement is based on demonstrable progress, not a set number of sessions, every dog moves at their own pace.
  • We support you from start to finish, at a pace that promotes lasting change.
